Smartphones: Essential Outdoor Gear?

Androids and Iphones and Blackberrys… Oh my! Are today’s so-called “smartphones” an invaluable piece of outdoor equipment? In this video we take a look at the many tools and features that make these phones an essential part of of our gear systems. From backpacking to fishing to boating, there are a multitude of useful apps on the market that not only make our outdoor adventures easier, but safer as well.

Great video subject. I mentioned in one of my videos that I carry my cell phone since I’m always out solo. Phones have come a long way. I’m on a 25 cent/minute pay as you go plan with just a phone & basic camera? My phone photos don’t look anywhere near as nice as yours so I always need to carry a camera. I was going to ask about the battery life but you covered that. Who would have thought. When we went camping as a kid I never heard Dad say “better not forget my phone” :-) )
